Fish and marine-animals These pictures shows what you can catch in Sandeidfjorden.

Sea cucumber

Sea cucumber belongs to the spikedskin in the same family as the starfish and the sea urchin. In Norway 35 species are found. They live in the deep fjords. This is ether a red-sausage ("Parastichopus tremulus") who can be up to 50 cm (this was ca 25 cm), or it is one without a Norwegian name but is in Latin named "Stichopus tremulus".

Lithodes crab

The Lithodes crab lives in deep water along the whole coast of Norway. The bones can grow up to 30 cm. This one had bones nearly 26 cm. In Latin the crab is named "Lithodes maja". The lithode crab seems like a crab, it is red, quilted, but is in the same family as the hermit crab.

This is a wild salmon (salmo salar). Its length was 101 cm. The salmon migrate over great areas, but return to its birth-river to spawn.

Porpoise (Phocaena phocaena) is a tooth-whale and is no fish. It can be up to 2 meters long. It breaths air through a whole in the head. This sounds like phonic snort. This drowned after getting tangled into a fishing-net.

Pollack  Pollack (Pollachius pollachius) is a codfish without any beard. The flesh is white and it is very good eating. Eel
Eel (anguilla anguilla)
Eel is an exiting fish both as food and way of living. The eel spawn in the Saragasso-ocean, follows the ocean streams for approximately 3 years and enter the rivers to live there for 9 - 13 years. Then they swim back to the Saragasso-ocean to spawn. We catch the eel in normal collapsible crab pots.
Torsk, cusk Torsk, cusk (Brosme brosme) is a very tasty fish (my favourite). It is a cod-fish (with beard), but is easy to recognise for its one and long back fin and a long anal fin connected with the tale. The colour can be from nearly black-brown to brown-yellow. It is living in deep fjord along the whole coast of Norway. The skin is thick and very slimy, but the flesh is white and firm.. The biggest torsk on the picture vas 13 kg, and the others from 5 - 3 kg.
Skolest Skolest (Coryphaenoides rupestris) llives in the deep fjords (100 - 2000 m). This is cach about 275 meter deep.  Skolest can be up to 1 meter . This fish was cut in two hanging on the angle.

Seamouse (Chimaera monstrosa) can be up to  1,5 m length and ca 2,5 kg. This was 1 m and the weight  2,4 kg. Seamouse is living on 300 - 500 meter deep, but is found at ca 50 - 1000 m deep. Seamouse is found along the whole norwegian coast. It cannot be eaten.  It is known by the long rat-tale (or mouse-tale). Seamouse
